We are often asked to appraise on the
internet. While we do not encourage appraisals for items not actually
viewed on our premises, "Informal online opinions & estimates"
can be obtained for certain collectibles by clicking on the link below
and sending clear scans together with a basic description. There is no
charge for this service when the items are of no value but we may request
a small fee, for valuable items or items requiring research.
Auction commission rates:
Our rates are very reasonable and typically auction commissions are 15%- 25% of the realization, depending on the type of consignment and the amount of work involved. This will include photography insurance advertising and marketing and all financial expenses such as banking charges and credit cards fees. On larger consignments rates are negotiable.

Appraisal fees:
For auction estimates and valuations for items intended for consignment to us or at Sotheby’s there is no charge. Conversely, for any written appraisals or for appraisals not immediately intended for consignment such as probate, inheritance or insurance valuations our fees are $300 / hour within the tri-state area and $350 when we travel outside this area. These are negotiable for larger appraisals and we offer reduced daily & weekly rates.
