The Anglo American Appraisal Service, Inc. is a New York City based company of Appraisers & Auctioneers who's President and CEO is Mike Japp . Mike is British and after studying the history of Art, Fine Art & Applied Arts at Hornsey College of Art & Design (London University) he went on to pursue a highly successful career in Advertising & communications, becoming Creative Director for some of the world's foremost advertising agencies (JWT, Y&R & Saatchi). In addition to his extensive and diverse specialist knowledge in the world of art & collectibles he has extensive marketing experience. This "duality" of experience has become an essential and integral part of successful auction sales in the world of today and has contributed enormously to the success of AAAS. Mike consulted for Sotheby's and ran the Phillips New York rare stamp & collectible dept. Mike is partnered on the appraisal side by Jason Nelson who also has extensive experience in many areas of collecting and especially in rare coins & jewelry. Jason comes from a long line of expert gemologists and previously worked with New York auction houses such as Tepper and later Doyle Galleries. Jason holds a degree in History from Tufts University and is a Graduate Gemologist from the GIA. |

The rest of the team is comprised of Eric Merfalen , who is responsible for a wide range of business aspects from eCommerce to web maintenance to research and descriptions. He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and is currently pursuing his MFA at New York University . Monica Dochia is our able support administrator who takes care of the mailings, item listings, and inventory. There are also a number of regular consultant specialists, IT experts, and interns who make up the team. Last but not least, there are Gizmo and Rupert, a small hairy French-speaking guard dog and an over-sized chocolate Labrador , who are in charge of security and licking stamps.
Although we are a New York based company we offer both nation wide and international appraisal services. Our clients have included national institutions such as Johns Hopkins University , Yale University , major law firms, banks, Lloyds of London and many of the more important international auctioneers and dealers.
